The Trust, Health Education East of England, Anglia Ruskin University and the University of East Anglia won a joint bid to take part in the Health Education England Paramedic Pre-Degree Pilot scheme commencing in January 2016. 30 pilot candidates will be recruited and jointly appointed by the Trust and partner Universities and trained in emergency care assistant roles in Norfolk and Essex prior to commencing the BSC Paramedic Science programme in the Autumn.

The aim of the pilot is to attract people into the paramedic profession from a broader and more diverse background. This will also help us to better represent the communities we service; aiming to recruit people who previously may not have previously been considered or who may not have considered joining the healthcare profession but who have an aspiration to become a paramedic.  All of the candidates will be required to undertake fifteen certificate standards over three months and also be assessed in the workplace.  These will provide fundamental caring knowledge, attitudes and skills.

Sandy Brown, Director of Nursing and Clinical Quality said, “I am delighted that we have won this bid which is a great example of joint working to broaden the opportunities for all our communities to aspire to be a paramedic.  This will help widen the pool of potential candidates as we look at the future paramedic needs of the organisation.”

Jenny McGuinness of Health Education east of England said, “We are very pleased to have been selected to take part in this exciting pilot with our partner Trust and Universities. This is a great opportunity to “grow our own” paramedic workforce within our communities”

Details of the scheme will be released shortly.
