A manager for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) spoke of his pride after winning a national award.

Phil Parr, who has worked for the ambulance service for 25 years, won an “outstanding manager” award at the Ambulance Leadership Forum’s Outstanding Service Awards this week (November 18).

The medic, who works as a duty locality officer in north Cambridgeshire, dedicated his award to his team after attending the awards ceremony in Leeds. The 41-year-old was nominated by his colleagues for the awards, which were judged by a panel made up of representatives from the Ambulance Leadership Forum and Association of Ambulance Chief Executives.

Mr Parr started his career as an ambulance cadet at the age of 16 and has worked as a manager in the service for the last 15 years.

The father-of-two from Peterborough, said: “I am very proud that the quality of service delivered to patients in north Cambridgeshire has been recognised with this award. “Performance of this standard has only been possible through the hard work and professionalism of both frontline teams and support staff along with the commitment and drive of the management team here.”

Mr Parr’s role involves managing all aspects of the emergency ambulance service at an operations level in north Cambridgeshire as well as responding to calls as a paramedic and scene manager.

Anthony Marsh, EEAST chief executive, said: “I am delighted that Phil Parr has won this national award. He has been an inspirational role model for others and has developed countless ambulance professionals and new aspirant leaders.”

Matt Broad, EEAST locality director for Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, added: “Phil has been a dedicated and professional leader within the organisation for many years and has a simple methodology, which is always to put the patient first. “So many patients owe the service they have received to Phil; he has been dedicated to ensuring the people of Cambridgeshire have received excellence from the ambulance service, achieved through energy and passion for quality and safe, effective service.”
