Raising awareness of bowel cancer screening this month

April is bowel cancer awareness month which this year is focusing on the need for better screening.

Organised by the charity Bowel Cancer UK, the awareness month is highlights that screening can save lives but at the moment in some areas of the UK, only a third of those who receive the test complete it. Bowel cancer is treatable, and curable, especially if diagnosed early. Nine in 10 people survive bowel cancer if it’s diagnosed early.

As part of the awareness month, Bowel Cancer UK is encouraging:

  • people who are over 60 to take the test that they will automatically receive in the post
  • younger people to encourage those in their lives over 60 to take the test.
