Reducing pressure on A&E during the World Cup

Chief in Chelmsford during World Cup

Extra medical cover was provided in Chelmsford city centre when England played Italy on Saturday night to help reduce 999 calls and pressure on A&E at Broomfield Hospital.

A treatment tent was set up in the High Street before the match and was run by staff and volunteers from EEAST and St John Ambulance into the early hours of Sunday, with 22 patients treated and three going to hospital. Trust Chief Anthony Marsh also paid a visit to meet the team.

Depending on how far England progress in the World Cup, the tent may be used again for a night-time weekend fixture.
