Reminder: Important Update on DSA air conditioning

Concept ambulance NTK

As the weather improves and the temperatures rise in the next days and weeks, the air conditioning systems in the ambulances will be working hard.

These systems are designed to work in a closed environment and will only lower the ambient temperature by a maximum 15 degrees over a period of time, when the air recirculation setting has been switched on.

The current NHS Ambulance Guidance for COVID-19 transport is that all recirculating settings are on the off and all vents are open. This is going to significantly reduce the effectiveness of the air conditioning systems and may lead to more out of service calls due to the systems ’not working’.

Please could all out of service calls where an air conditioning defect has been reported be checked and challenged before removing any DSAs from service for these defects.

Fleet will be keeping a log where no defect has been found and will report as required.
