Sam and Rachel thanked for 100 blood pressure checks

The patient and public involvement team (PPI) are saying a big thank you to colleagues who took part in our latest engagement event in Welwyn, helping to take 100 blood pressures from members of the public.

Paramedic Sam Harrison, from Stevenage, and Student Paramedic Rachel joined the team at the Howard Centre last week, where they checked blood pressures and gave health advice to passers-by.

Of the 100 checks, eight were advised to go to their GP within the month, three within a week, and instant medical advice was offered to two people, avoiding a potential hospital visit.

Sotu Marshall-Wyer, PPI Manager, said: “Thank you to Sam and Rachel – an awesome job done!

“We chatted with more than 100 people as they passed us by and we are very happy to report that we didn’t receive a single negative comment. The public of Welwyn think that EEAST do a marvelous job!

“These events provide a fantastic opportunity to talk to people in their own communities to gain opinions on how we are doing and to pass on information about EEAST.”

If you would be interested to help out at any of the team’s events, please contact PPI Officer Gillian Langley at gillian.langley@eastamb.nhs.uk.
