SORT Training opportunities in 2020!

SORT

If you would like to join our specialist operations response team (SORT), then new training dates for 2020 are now available!

The team help decontaminate casualties at incidents that might involve chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or other hazardous materials.  In these situations, particularly if there are a large number of patients, it’s really important that we decontaminate and treat patients as quickly as possible.

If you’re clinically trained (technician level and above), you can join the team. You would still do your normal role on a day-to-day basis but will receive SORT training at least once a year, which includes sessions on using specialist chemical equipment, decontaminating live casualties and administering basic life support at the scene of a hazardous material or CBRNE incident.

Specialist operation response team members will also have the opportunity to undertake further training and attendance at exercises alongside other specialist capabilities.

If you’re interested, you can apply to complete the initial three-day course by emailing epcourses@eastamb.nhs.uk and add SORT to the subject line.  As it’s a mix of theory and physical practical, you will need to pass a fitness competency assessment and a medical assessment before starting the training.  There will be a requirement to undertake and pass the fitness test on an annual basis.

Upcoming course dates are:-

  • 24th, 25th & 26th April - Great Notley
  • 8th, 9th, & 10th May - Beccles
  • 5th, 6th & 7th June - Peterborough
  • 3rd, 4th, & 5th July - Great Notley
  • 25th, 26th & 27th September - Beccles
  • 23rd, 24th & 25th October - Peterborough
