South Beds Prize Bingo!

Many of us view our colleagues as an extension of our family and gain enormous support from them during social gatherings and ‘get-togethers’.Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been impossible, at times, to meet up for that post work ‘coffee and chat’ to aid our general wellbeing. It has indeed been a tough six months.

Colleagues in South Bedfordshire are presently piloting a culture improvement programme where various staff-led issues are identified and addressed by the management team and numerous staff rep groups. During a conference call with our CEO Dorothy to discuss progress of the project, she set the challenge of organising something fun for the staff.

In response to this, Assistant General Manager Craig Borrett considered which activity he could organise with appropriate social distancing measures in place. He came up with the idea of free prize bingo which could be played via Microsoft Teams.

Craig said, "Knowing how staff-focused our CEO is, I really wanted to show Dorothy that we could do something that would be enjoyable and inclusive, whilst giving my local team a focus away from COVID-19." He added, "Many of my family and friends donated some small gifts to be used as prizes in acknowledgement of the dedication and commitment that the ambulance staff have shown over the extremely difficult last few months."

Bingo tickets were also provided and distributed amongst the team, with the game played on the evening of 8th September. In order to assist  with team building, if someone called 'House’ they were required to share a fact about themselves which their colleagues may not know! Participants discovered  that one colleague had a pet snow leopard whilst growing up and another has a giant pet snail, named Gary!

Staff have said how much they enjoyed the event and that they can't wait until the next one!  It is likely that an online quiz will be planned to keep it interactive and fresh.

Pictured with her £20 eat out voucher prize is paramedic, Sarah Wright, who commented on how much fun the bingo had been. Others, who sadly could not join, have commented that they are greatly looking forward to being part of the next one!

Craig added, "Although I'd never make a great bingo caller, it really showed me that the pandemic should not be a barrier to holding team events. We were all able to have a laugh within the comfort of our own homes. I urge all teams to organise a similar online event."

And just in case you didn't believe us about the snow leopard...
