Staff visit new ambulance station in west Hertfordshire

New west Herts ambulance station March 2015

More than 40 staff attended an open day at the new station for St Albans and Hemel Hempstead to see how building work is progressing, ahead of the official opening in June.

Staff gave positive feedback on the building and also gave suggestions and ideas on what they’d like to see.

Dave Fountain, Locality Director for Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, said: “It is a very exciting time and we welcomed the enthusiasm from all staff who visited the site on Thursday (19th March). We have had, at both St Albans station and Hemel Hempstead station, very limited opportunities in ensuring our staff have modern surroundings to work from. This gives our dedicated team an exciting opportunity to shape how our ambulance station develops over the coming weeks, months and years within west Hertfordshire area.

“It has been a difficult period in procuring our new site and I appreciate fully the support that estates has given us in locating the right site for our whole team. Equally our Chief Executive and Trust board have been incredibly supportive and their advice has been gratefully received during this planning process.

“We are looking for a new name for the base, and would welcome suggestions from our staff in naming the new station. A bottle of bubbly and the opportunity in cutting the ribbon could be the prize when the station opens in June.”
