Storage of Patient Care Records

EEAST Lozenge and crest right aligned

Following a review of pigeon holes at stations, a number of paper patient care records (PCRs) have been found being stored there.

Please ensure PCRs are not kept in pigeon holes or lockers as these areas are not secure for patient information and this is a breach of Trust Policy (please see the Trust’s PCR policy

Please remember:

  • Paper PCRs should be stored in a secure area on station, to prevent loss or data protection breaches.
  • Records should be submitted on station ready for transport to the medical records departments within two weeks of being created.

Please also remember that it is Trust policy to use electronic PCR at all times when available; these are secure, cannot be lost, and are instantly available to other clinicians, providers, and for investigations.
