Stork Award success for new Chelmsford call handler

Harry Pye Stork award

2020 has seen high numbers of new call handlers being employed across all three of our Ambulance Operation Centres (AOC’s). Being a new call handler during a global pandemic is no easy task, but there have been many success stories across the Trust.

One of those success stories is new Chelmsford Call Handler, Harry Pye, who helped safely deliver a baby girl in June, achieving his Stork Award.

‘Harry is a relatively new member of staff and had only qualified as an emergency call handler a couple of weeks before taking the call. We are really proud of this achievement and how well he is doing’, says Call Handler Team Leader Emma Farkas, who presented him with the award.

On receiving his award, Harry said, ‘I was very excited but nervous when I heard the caller tell me his wife was in labour. Especially having a little girl of my own, it was very close to home. It was such an amazing feeling hearing the baby cry in the background and hearing how relieved and happy the parents were. It’s something I’ll never forget.’

Congratulations and well done Harry!
