Stroke 60 target is improving

Side of RRV with lozenge

Each month we are measured on our transport of stroke patients to a hyper acute stroke unit (HASU) for stroke thrombolysis.

As a Trust we continue to improve on the percentage of patients we are able to get to a HASU within 60 minutes. As ‘time is brain’, this is vitally important to give the patient the best chance of a good outcome.

In April we managed to get 43.3% of patients to a HASU within the 60 minute target. In May this increased to 54.4%. This is excellent and we continue also to see an increase in completing the stroke care bundle, last month achieving close to 100%. Thank you everyone!

Please remember that if you attend a patient suffering what appears to be an acute stroke (FAST symptoms) and they are within the 4.5 hour thrombolysis window (from time the symptoms began), they should be transported quickly, with a pre-alert to the nearest HASU. If you are working on an RRV, you should request ‘Hot 1’ back up to ensure the patient is transported as quickly as possible.

You should still consider patients outside of the 4.5hrs window as an emergency, and manage accordingly.
