Student para Joanne gears up for London marathon

With 38,000 runners, the London marathon is considered to be one of the world’s biggest and best running events.

And one of our own student paramedics will be joining the fun, fitness and fundraising this year as she dons her trainers in the name of charity.

Joanne, based at Welwyn Garden City, will be hoping to complete the mammoth 26.2 miles race on the 24th April for Herts and Essex Air Ambulance.

“This will be my third marathon,” she said. “All the charities I have run for have been close to my heart, and I have chosen Herts and Essex Air Ambulance having seen first-hand the amazing job they do. They help us in our job on the road and they help those whose lives really do hang in the balance.”

Joanne is currently fitting in runs between her student paramedic work.

She added: “The training is quite demanding, and I have been struggling to find a balance with the student paramedic work I have had to do, along with working on duty and fitting it in my days off. It is hard but it will all pay off in the end.

“I remember my previous marathons and getting to the 20-mile mark and thinking, ‘why am I doing this?’ Then I remember that I want to help others and achieve a sense of satisfaction to be able to complete this.”
