Student paramedic delays

Blurred ambulance

We recognise the impact that the delays in student paramedic training has had on our staff, through no fault of their own. Whilst these delays were out of our control, as they were a result of the time taken for Universities to gain the required accreditation, we do recognise it has taken some time to resolve this matter.

Therefore, given the value we place on supporting our staff, we are pleased to confirm that for those student paramedics who have been affected by this specific issue, the Trust has agreed that they will progress to the paramedic pay banding (band 5) from the point they should have qualified.

Retrospection in pay will also be given to those who have already gone beyond the 30 month training period due to the university accreditation delays.

Work will now start to calculate the amounts payable to each individual. As you can imagine this is going to take some time so please bear with us while we go through each individual case.  We will be writing to each Student Paramedic who is affected on a phased basis, prioritising those who are already beyond the 30 month period.  The letter will detail the date from the individual Student Paramedic’s salary will progress to the bottom of Band 5, any future incremental points and details of any back dated payments.

We are committed to developing and maintaining a range of development and career progression opportunities which are some of the best in the UK Ambulance Sector.
