Success in Felixstowe at the annual 'Know Your Blood Pressure' event

On Sunday 22nd April, a group of EEAST staff joined forces with members of the Rotary Club of Felixstowe Languard for the annual ‘Know Your Blood Pressure’ event.

The event gave members of the public the opportunity to have their blood pressures checked, and were then advised if any follow up treatment was required. The day saw 280 attendees, beating last year’s tally of 256. Of the 280 people seen, 20 urgent GP referrals within the week were made, as well as 50 GP referrals within the next month.

‘Know Your Blood Pressure’ forms part of a national awareness month organised by the Stroke Association, that aims to help people understand the connection between high blood pressure and stroke.

During the day the team received some great feedback from a grateful member of the public who attended last year. They have since undergone triple bypass surgery following an urgent referral that was made.

Daimon Wheddon, an area clinical lead for EEAST said: “Last year was a very successful event but this year was even better. It was fantastic to see so many members of the public willing to have their blood pressures taken. I would like to thank all our staff members who attended and gave up their time to do some valuable health promotion with the public; it can make all the difference to people in the future.”
