Sudden death of paramedic mentor in Luton

The Trust is extremely sad to announce the death of Richard Grimes, a colleague from our Luton Ambulance Station, where he was a paramedic mentor. He joined the Trust in 2008.

We would like to extend our sympathies to his family and friends at this difficult time.

Coming so soon after the loss of other colleagues, this is very sad news indeed, so please make allowances for how you or colleagues may be affected.

We have set up a helpline for anyone who is struggling with these events, or who simply wants to talk through their thoughts.

This will be open from today until Wednesday 4th December all inclusive, 11am – 7pm each day. Tanya and Russ, both highly trained and experienced trauma therapists, will be at the end of the line to talk with you. The number is: 07902 154 817

This is an entirely confidential space for you to use, if you wish, and the calls are in complete privacy. We will only know a) if calls have been made (in numbers) or b) if there is any risk.

If you require any further support, please note these services:

  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) on 0800 0851376. Alternatively, you can arrange a confidential conversation with Debra Winterson or Dean Stuart.
  • Samaritans – call 116 123 for free 24/7 or you can email
