Suffolk paras train cadets to use life-saving defibs

Two paramedics have praised the Newmarket Cadets for their enthusiasm after a training session in CPR and using a defibrillator.

Lester Burdiss, based at Newmarket, and Catherine Whelham from Bury, trained more than 20 army cadets over the summer, including how to help anyone who is unconscious or not breathing and requires CPR and use of a defibrillator.

Lester said: “The cadets had basic first aid training and were asking for an introduction into using them as many had seen them at local supermarkets and sports centres.

 

“It was definitely an experience not to be missed as all the cadets were so enthusiastic and willing to learn.”

Speaking after the session, Newmarket Detachment Commander SI Phil Swadling said: “The cadets really appreciated and enjoyed meeting Lester and Catherine and want to pass on their gratitude and thanks to them. 

“We appreciate their support and commitment for taking time out of their schedules to visit us and bringing along an ambulance and the defib – the cadets really did enjoy it.”
