The general election

NHS logo

With a general election being announced this week, we are now entering what is known as ‘purdah’ (or the pre-election period) which starts on the 22nd April.

In effect purdah prevents announcements from, and activities by, public bodies which could influence or be seen to influence the election. Purdah officially applies until the day following the general election if a new government is formed.

NHS Providers have produced a very helpful briefing about purdah – what it means and what we can and cannot do. We would encourage all staff to familiarise themselves with this.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the communications team who will be able to provide advice.
