Thursday 13th May - Leadership message from Dr Tom Davis, Interim CEO

Dr Tom Davis

On Monday, the Prime Minister announced that the next stage of the Government’s roadmap would go ahead as planned, with further restrictions being lifted from next Monday (17 May). This is welcome news, allowing more restrictions to be lifted and making it easier to see friends and family. The Government has set out here what you can and cannot do after the 17th, including guidance on traveling abroad.

We all know COVID 19 remains a real risk and to keep the infection rate and risk low, we must continue to follow all COVID guidance and continue to test regularly, even if you have had both vaccines. We have some extra COVID secure training dates available here and all the latest guidance is available on Need to Know.

Thank you to everyone who has had their second vaccine. We are in the top twenty trusts in the country for vaccine uptake, which helps keep patients, colleagues and family safer. In terms of demand, we are seeing an increase of around ten percent compared to this time last year. An infographic showing our latest performance numbers is available here for more detail.

I am delighted that the All Women’s EEAST (AWE) network relaunched last week and you can read more and watch their inspiring video here. AWE’s co-chair Barbara spoke about the network and gave her frank views on EEAST’s culture to NHS colleagues, regulators and stakeholders last week.

At the same meeting, we shared our latest progress on the CQC action plan. Please read the summary on two important areas - improving the safety and effectiveness of private ambulance services, and robust HR governance.

Can I end by reminding all staff, and especially during mental health week, that we have a lot of support available for your mental wellbeing. You can read more online and please do get advice or support if need it.

Thank you and stay safe.
