Thursday 6th May - Leadership message from Nicola Scrivings, Trust Chair

Nicola Scrivings

On behalf of the Board, I am pleased to share that following a competitive recruitment process Tom Abell, current Deputy Chief Executive of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSEFT), has been appointed as EEAST’s new chief executive.

With substantial NHS leadership experience in acute, mental health and commissioning, Tom brings a wealth of expertise to the position.

During his time at MSEFT Tom has led a number of significant areas of work, including clinical redesign and public consultation work which led to the merger of the three legacy trusts that now make up MSEFT and the subsequent culture work that sits alongside this. Tom has been a key part in building a positive culture for staff, which will be instrumental as we continue to move forward and make EEAST a better and more supportive place to work.

Tom’s formal start date is likely to be in the autumn. You can read more about Tom’s experience here, and read a message to you from Tom here.

I also want to formally thank Dr Tom Davis, who has done an outstanding job as interim chief executive since September last year. Dr Tom has led the Trust with calm and professionalism, successfully leading our initial response to the CQC report and special measures, leadership changes, winter pressures and two phases of COVID. Dr Tom will continue to lead the Trust until Tom is in place and will then return to his previous role of deputy chief executive and medical director.

I am sure you will all join me in welcoming Tom to EEAST.
