Today is the National Day for Staff Networks!

National day for staff networks

The National Day for Staff Networks (aka Networks Day) is the day where employee networks across the United Kingdom rise up as a community and lead the way for change in the workplace.

Launched on 10th May 2017, Networks Day has quickly become an established event in the diversity calendar. You can find out more about the day by visiting their website.

The day presents an opportunity for them to celebrate the contribution, inspire with their stories and offer insight into the lived experiences of underrepresented colleagues and transform the organisation. Networks can be an effective voice for colleagues to create more inclusive environment where all employees, that want to, can progress.

Here at EEAST we have six staff networks, including our soon to be launched Men’s Wellbeing Network, which you can find out more about below.

Mens Wellbeing Network

Network Co-Chairs: John Hammond and David Walker

Exec Sponsor: Hein Scheffer

Non-Exec Sponsor: Nicola Scrivings

The Men’s Wellbeing Network (MWN) is designed to support improved experience and to promote equality within the workplace with a focus on gender issues impacting men’s wellbeing at work  - a safe space for men and those who identify as men to share experiences and talk about issues around their mental wellbeing.

The stereotype that men have to be strong macho types, affected by nothing, and the protectors of their families, has perpetuated a culture of reluctance to express any concerns for their own mental wellbeing, a refusal to ask for help and, a reticence to engage with health services. The attitude, perception, or belief that any ‘imperfection’ is a sign of weakness is a cause for concern.

The network will be officially launched in June, with the first meeting taking place in July, and tomorrow we will be introducing the network chairs John and David here on Need to Know.

The network is still recruiting for the following vacancy which is live on Trac;
