Multi-agencies take part in trauma exercise

Trauma Exercise

On Tuesday 19th November there was an emergency call for a house fire with and explosion and injured persons reported.

Lowestoft South Fire and Rescue station dispatched two appliances, Lowestoft North dispatched one and Beccles Fire and Rescue Station dispatched one appliance and one command vehicle.
The fire service arrived first and quickly found three patients. EEAST first resource then arrived 10 minutes later, took a handover from the officer in charge and began to triage and treat patients.

Mercifully, this was a multi-agency training exercise held at Lowestoft South Fire and Rescue Station, featuring EEAST staff and Fire and Rescue crews.
Although only a training exercise, this is the kind of incident that could happen at any time, so every care was taken to ensure the 'incident' as realistic as possible (including live casualties with make-up and acting supplied by St John Ambulance Lowestoft).

The value of exercises such as these is not only in preparing for significant, challenging events, but also developing good working relations with other agencies, and learning about their approaches and procedures.

Two training exercise were held this year, with more planned for 2020. Any staff wishing to take part in future events should contact Ben Law, Senior Paramedic Mentor and CFOT at Waveney: Ben.law@eastamb.nhs.uk
