Trauma Triage process returning to normal

Transparent EEAST crest

From midday on 15th July, the Trauma Network will be reverting to normal operating in terms of the triage of major trauma candidates.

This means that the East of England Trauma Triage Tool should be applied to any suspected major trauma candidate, assessing them against the anatomical and physiological parameters.  If the patient meets any of the criteria, clinicians should update the Critical Care Desk (CCD) on CH202 and request enhanced care team support as required.

The trauma triage tool allows us to bypass a local Trauma Unit if the patient is stable, and the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) is within a 45 minute journey time. There is no longer a need to get authorisation for this bypass decision.

All decisions relating to major trauma should be communicated to the CCD, and any requirement for decision making support can be facilitated by the CCD clinician.
