We’re pleased to announce that the Trust has been working alongside UNISON to increase the minimum wage that we pay our lowest banded staff.

The agreement, which UNISON Chair Steve Imrie and Chief Executive Anthony Marsh have been developing, was approved by the Trust Board last week.

Steve Imrie said:  “The decision of the Board to agree to this will greatly improve the working and pay conditions of our lowest paid staff, I’m sure the staff affected will join me in thanking the Board for agreeing to these improvements to their pay.”

He added: “EEAST should be proud to be the first NHS employer within the eastern region to have taken this bold step for their staff.”

Anthony Marsh said: “This increase will better support our staff and is part of our commitment to make this a one of the best places to work.  I would like to thank UNISON for all of their work on this, as we work together to improve working lives for staff at EEAST.”

The new approved wage equates to an annual salary of £15,347 per annum (£7.85 per hour x 37.5 hrs per week x 52.134 weeks per year).  This means that spine points 1, 2 and 3 should see an increase (they are currently paid £14,294, £14,653 and £15,103 respectively).

The changes will take effect from 1st January 2015 and staff affected will move to this new salary, and then receive the annual pay increments in the normal way until they reach the top of the band.
