Hello colleagues

Well since we spoke last Friday, we’ve got our Prime Minister back in Number 10, so that’s great news, the leader is back. Just this morning, he highlighted a few key things again around Covid and in particular, we’re doing a good job. So, our risk is still there, but what he has said is that all of the measures that we’re putting in place, we need to stick with and we need to continue on that journey of all of us playing our part. I think again, managing expectations, we’ll be with this for a while.

In terms of where we are around Covid and what that has brought to us in terms of change, we constantly keep hearing about the new normal, well my new normal, and many of my colleagues, has been around we don’t travel as much, because we can’t, we’re on Microsoft Teams – for how many hours a day! However, there is a real bonus to that because actually we’re able to keep that communication link up and running. I think our new normal will be about more communication actually, just through a different medium. Of course, we’re missing each other, but we will absolutely make up for it when the lockdown, in the future, ease up. But in the meantime, we will be keeping up that conversation through the internet and through all the different media that we can.

I want to pay a huge thanks, this session, to our operational teams, who have been working extraordinarily hard in these times, and again, with different circumstances. In the last couple of weeks, they have been working around operational improvement albeit we’ve been in Covid. The response to our patients has improved, we’ve gone from over 8 minutes at times on our C1 to under 7 minutes. Last week we came out at 7 minutes and 4 seconds. What an amazing achievement, because that’s about patients. That’s about access for patients. So, I’m looking forward to the next couple of weeks and see what else we can deliver – of course I’ve said, knock off the 4 seconds, because it’ll make a difference!

Recruitment is still very important to us, we’ve large numbers of vacancies and I know there’s a lot of folks out there now who are looking for work So I hope in your communities you’re doing a lot to promote us as a key employer and come and work for EEAST. There’s a lot of information on our website. We’ve taken in a lot of temporary workers and that’s fantastic because we’ll always need temporary workers but significantly, we need to increase our substantive workforce. So please help with that because what we want to be is fully recruited to in EEAST so that makes everyone’s lives better.
