Trust your instincts: Keeping yourselves and your colleagues safe

Have you seen the recent coverage on the national news and in the media about a new campaign where the public is being asked to trust their instincts?

Mark Rowley, a senior counter terrorism advisor has reported that since the killing of serviceman Fusilier Lee Rigby in 2013, his department has thwarted a further 13 planned terrorist attacks.

He is appealing to the public to report any information that they may have in the hope that it will fill in the missing piece of the puzzle in their current investigations.

We can all do our bit by reporting anything that our instincts are telling us does not feel quite right, by calling the anti-terrorism hotline on 0800 789 321. They have received 22,000 calls in the previous twelve months, with all reports being logged and taken seriously.

Whilst working on Trust sites we can also do our best to protect ourselves and other members of staff by keeping all premises secure. Below are some tips on how to do this:

• report anything suspicious or that “just doesn’t feel right”
• close all windows and doors when a station/premises is left unattended
• check the ID of any visitors who arrive on station (confirming with a DLO if required)
• report any unusual activity
• ensure all padlocks on medical gases etc are kept tumbled
• don’t leave any sensitive information out for any unauthorised person to see.  

 

As a Trust we do ask that you do not put yourselves in any danger, as your safety is our priority. However, if you do notice anything suspicious, please ensure that you do the following:

• take a photo on your mobile phone
• note down any registration number of any vehicle
• get a detailed description of the person including clothing, approximate age, other       distinguishing features
• LET EOC/Police know immediately.
