Two off-duty members of staff praised

Staff with patient on stretcher at accident and emergency

A hearty well done to two members of staff who have recently leapt into action to care for others whilst off-duty.

Mid Essex member of staff Rachel was in the Basildon branch of B&Q in late September when an assistant in the store collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. With the help of a trained first aider, Rachel began resuscitation on the 30-year-old woman and was soon backed up by crew Gavin and David, Paramedic Serena, and DLO Brad. The team managed to resuscitate the patient and transported her to Basildon Hospital A&E in a critical condition and we understand the patient is making a good recovery.

A month later, Student Paramedic Alistair was off-duty in Cambridgeshire, when a man collapsed nearby and went into cardiac arrest, and rushed to assist. Backed up by the team Kevin, Rebecca and Steve, together they got a ROSC on the patient, whose outcome is currently unknown.
