Two-thousand-pound donation boosts Sprowston CFRs

Life-saving volunteers in Norfolk have received a donation boost from a supermarket.

A £2,400 cheque was presented to Sprowston Community First Responders (CFRs) by staff at the Sainsbury’s Pound Lane store in Norwich, which will help to buy new medical equipment.

The store raised the money for the group, which covers Sprowston, Old Catton, Thorpe St Andrew and Norwich North, through fundraising activities including raffles, cake sales, and bucket collections.

The store also held a number of awareness days which helped encourage new volunteers to join the group, they donated a sat-nav, and a customer even knitted toys for CFRs to hand out to children when attending medical emergencies. Norwich North Alpha Lions also donated funds for two new response kits.

Craig MacDonald, Co-ordinator for Sprowston CFRs, said: “It has been a massive opportunity to have our community first responders profile raised. The monies raised will enhance and update our life-saving equipment and allow us to respond to areas currently not being covered. Our thanks go to Sainsbury’s Pound Lane colleagues and management as well as the generosity of customers at the store.”

Sprowston CFRs have responded to 345 medical emergencies since 2015 - 28 of those were cardiac arrests.
