Update from Anthony Marsh - 7th May

Chief Executive Dr Anthony Marsh

Firstly a big thank you to everyone who worked or volunteered over the bank holiday weekend – as we anticipated, it was very busy. We attended 7% more incidents compared to last year, with 8,936 responses between Friday and the end of Monday, compared to 8,339 in 2014. We also received a higher volume of calls, with 11,016 calls taken over the long weekend, compared to 10,760 last year. Thanks to your hard work we maintained a high level of service to our patients and I appreciate your outstanding efforts, as always.

This week we met with UNISON to discuss how we can help reduce late finishes. We made good positive progress and are currently finalising the details of the pilot that will be launched later this month. Once the pilot is agreed, we will announce it to staff.

I would like to update you on the progress on one of our priorities for this year; updating the CAD system. Over the last few months we have experienced a number of significant issues with our current CAD and we have been working extremely closely with Intergraph, the CAD supplier, to resolve the most serious issues. As a result we have made some good progress, with a significant decrease in screen freezes, improvements to caller line identification and a reduction in the system slowdown at 4am in the mornings. There are still a number of issues which we are working on with Intergraph, so if you experience any problems, please continue to report these in the normal manner to ensure that all are being addressed.

At the same time, we have started a procurement process for a new CAD. This work is well underway and is currently at a stage where potential suppliers are developing their proposals for our review. This project is moving quickly and it is expected that a decision on the CAD system will be made over the summer. I will of course keep you updated in Need to Know.
