Updated 111 pathway to identify ebola symptoms

To help with the early identification of suspected ebola patients, the Trust’s 111 service in Norfolk has updated pathway questions to investigate potential symptoms.

If a caller reports a fever and other flu-like symptoms, they will now be asked whether they have travelled to west Africa or had exposure to the ebola virus in the last four weeks.

Depending on the answers, a caller would be advised to telephone their GP (and not attend the surgery) or to go to hospital. If they do not have their own transport, the caller will be booked an ambulance via the usual local process and the Trust’s ebola procedures will be put in place.
