Updates to winter overtime incentive

Further to the announcement of the Trust’s winter overtime incentive last week, staff will have observed that among the inclusion criteria, there is the usual requirement that staff attend pre-planned shifts.

Because the publication of the incentive came out close to the restriction starting on the 7th December 2019, this has been reviewed slightly to reflect the tight time frame. Therefore, we have changed the inclusion criteria now reflects there should be no cancellation of pre-booked shifts or sickness absence starting from 14th December 2019.

The payments are available to:

  • Any clinical staff working pre-agreed overtime on an emergency double staffed ambulance
  • PTS staff working overtime providing dedicated urgent vehicle support for A&E
  • Staff working overtime in call handler, dispatch, ECAT and TOC roles
  • Staff in support roles who ensure our fleet is ready and available to respond against the operational plan and fleet requirements 
  • For staff working shifts of at least 8 hours

Eligibility and further information:

  • Only the shifts specified here would attract the additional payments 
  • Shifts must be at least 8 hours in length and pre-agreed with local managers/planners in advance
  • Overtime will be paid at the applicable AFC rate 
  • All part time, full time and bank staff are eligible for the additional payments
  • The eligibility period will be split into two sections. Shifts worked in December will be paid in January and shifts worked in January will be paid in February.
  • No cancellation of any pre-booked overtime between 14th December 2019 and the 6th January 2020, inclusive for December returns, and between 1st January and 15th January 2020, inclusive for January returns
  • No sickness absence between 14th December 2019 and 6th January 2020, inclusive for December returns, and between 1st January 2020 and 20th January 2020, inclusive for January returns
  • No other absences other than pre-booked annual leave (unless authorised by a line manager)
  • Any staff requiring to book duty sick will need to have worked at least 75% of their shift to be eligible for the incentive payment.
  • A limited number of shifts by week which attract the additional payments are available, after which, usual AFC overtime rates will apply. These are agreed on a first-come-first-served basis.
