Use of Urgent Tier Vehicles

Concept ambulance NTK

The Trust has introduced an Urgent Tier level of transportable resources. These vehicles are able to attend a range of urgent referrals/transfers including HCP/IFT Category 3.

As clinicians, you are also able to request an urgent journey through your dispatch or ECAT team and also to leave the scene, if it is appropriate to do so, in advance of their arrival. You will need to record the urgent journey CAD number on your documentation (your dispatch team will provide this).

When attending lower acuity patients, that require a conveyance to a receiving facility with no clinical intervention and is for transport only, please consider utilising these crews to enable you to become available to respond to our sickest patients.

Exceptions to this are:

  • Cases requiring cardiac intervention
  • Cases requiring paramedic intervention
  • Pregnancy related cases
  • Children under 12

Best practice is to provide and document any worsening advice to your patient prior to the UTV arriving at the location. Also, call ahead to the receiving unit to provide a verbal handover.
