Vital firmware updates

From Monday 3rd February IM&T are going to be installing vital firmware updates to multiple computers across the Trust. These are essential security updates which need to be installed in the next few days.

The update will be installed when the PC is switched on, an update will start to install which will restart the computer and bring it back to the “Dell” logo screen saying “Updating your firmware”.

This process can take up to 15 minutes to complete. During this time the machine must not be turned off as this can cause the machine to be completely unusable.

After the update has completed, the machine will load back to the Windows Login Screen and you can then use the machine as normal.

Helpful hint: If you are finished using your pc for the day, please ‘”Restart”  instead of “Shutting Down” your pc until this update has been applied (once the update has applied please revert to shutting down at the end of the day). This will allow the update to be applied when it is not in use and cause less disruption the next time you need to log in.

Should you have any issues, please contact the Service Desk in the usual way.
