This week's We Are EEAST Exec Briefing and Q&A comes from our Chief Operating Officer, Marcus Bailey.
Q1 - Keep hearing the need for 7-day leadership cover - when are the Trust going to begin a consultation process and review current contracts if this is the expectation?
Q2 - Will the Trust be purchasing the 2021 JRCALC pocket guidelines for staff?
Q3 - Did the fuel crisis affect PTS adversely? (Were there substantial delays caused due to this?)
Q4 - There's so much pressure on all staff, whatever their role, but please remember why we are all here..... Today, I was honoured to meet a 25-year-old cardiac arrest survivor with the clinicians who attended...only 1 month to the day from the incident. We need to move to a place of focusing on the positives and celebrating the amazing positive impact every one of us contributes to whether management/a clinician/support staff (as we can only function with all of us having the patient in mind and of course, by supporting our colleagues).
Q5 - Could it be explained why as a Trust we don’t have a separate investigation team made up of clinical and non-clinical staff who can act independently of the Trust to investigate issues of sexism, harassment, bully or victimisation?
Q6 - Why was Waveney area given the trail of the new cameras when it would of been more appropriate to start with Luton which has a much high level of abuse against staff?
Q7 - What is the flowers payment?
Q8 - When are we getting an answer as to whether staff on annex 5 that have just finished their SAP pathway recently are going to remain on annex 5 or not?
Q9 - When will the trust have a Winter Plan to share with systems?
Q10 - Is there a date for flu jabs yet? When we go for Covid booster are we getting Flu jab at same time, or will this be done at a different time please?
Q11 - Hi Marcus, are there any updates regarding staff responders? As you mention, we continue to face unprecedented challenges, not just as an organisation, but as a part of the wider healthcare system (handover delays, demand, etc), and as such, it would improve patient care and reduce the clinical risk in the community if we progressed and implemented something as soon as possible.
Q12 - Do you see us being able to move out of REAP4 in the current climate, especially with Winter fast approaching?
Q13 - With staff issues in TOC frequently, why does the expectation fall on to HoOs, GMs, AGMs to pick up TOC functions? How can Ops senior management give the time to focus on staff wellbeing when needing to constantly conduct hospital escalations? (especially when a DTC is paid band 8 PLUS unsocial hours which was never featured in Agenda for Change).
Q14 - Is there an update on how you are making the Flowers payment to people who have recently left? No guidance from the designated email address....
Q15 - Thanks for creating an in-depth guide to the CQC - will there be a specific CQC Q&A session? And do you think they will come before Christmas?
Q16 - How do staff that have left (but on bank still) claim the flowers payment please?
Q17 - PPE fatigue does seem to be an increasing problem. Despite your leadership messages, compliance remains low and attitudes poor, which doesn't bode well, particularly with looming regulatory inspections. How do we change this?
Q18 - Thank you Marcus for promoting World Menopause Day on the 18th of October. The AWE network will be holding an EEAST Menopause Awareness Event between 9.30 and 12.30, on the day. We welcome our staff to pop in if they are able. If you are unable to attend, it will be recorded, so could be viewed at a later date. Thank you.
Q19 - A few weeks ago questions were asked about advanced paramedics in urgent care being moved off ambulances back onto RRV’s to be more effective, no updates on the use of this staff group has been forthcoming and we're now in the process of interviewing for more staff to come into this role with the Trust currently having a set plan to use this group.
Q20 - With the current pressures and ongoing COVID-19 related issues on the Trust and particularly frontline staff how is the Trust going to protect staff from “burn out”? Many staff are expressing concern that they are at their limit both physically and mentally.
Q21 - As a support member of staff but qualified Paramedic it is frustrating driving around seeing crews in cabs of ambulances without masks on. Yet due to "staff sickness levels and REAP4" we are being pulled frontline to help out so we cannot do our day jobs, but if staff wore their masks there might be less sickness! What disciplinary measures are in place to improve compliance?
Q22 - Over the past few weeks there doesn't appear to be any feedback posted on these sessions? In the past the video was posted, and a document provided with all of the questions and their related answers. There have been a number of queries recently that people are awaiting answers for, but as much as I have searched NTK I can't find anything for the last few weeks.
Q23 - Great update Marcus thank you. Saddened to hear about PPE fatigue, I'm happy to chat to people having lost immediate close family members to Covid and not being able to see them or say goodbye, not able to attend their funeral and so much more. We all have a responsibility to look after ourselves, keep ourselves safe, our families and our patients.
Q24 - When can we expect MediPro to give answers to AEMT's regarding their qualification? As there are a majority that are awaiting portfolio sign offs and ride outs. Some have been completed for over 3 months.
