How we're making our services safer

The Operational Transformation Programme has redefined the way we work and engage with each other and the organisation.

Medicines management

Review of whole medicines management system:

  • Controlled drugs new model implemented
  • Prescribed-only medicines: options appraisal completed
  • Continued focus on efficient stock management

Fleet management and Make Ready

Developed a new concept ambulance that offers a better and safer care environment for our patients and our clinicians. Prototype was signed off and production is underway.

Vehicle Technicians and Make Ready Services Operatives will work alongside each other to ensure that vehicles and equipment are fit for duty and available. Rollout sees 10 locations by July 2019; complete transformation by 2025/26 due to substantial redevelopment/relocation necessary.

Patient Transport Service (PTS)

Following a complete review of PTS there is now a very clear understanding of all aspects of training, vacancies, recruitment, and appraisal. The improvement plan with a dedicated senior resource reporting to the CEO is now in place.

Paediatric harnesses

The Trust rolled out a paediatric harness for use in all our Ambulances. The harness will protect both patients and staff in the event of an accident. A Standard Operating Procedure for the harness has been communicated to all staff. A training plan has been rolled out in tangent with our Professional Update course. Compliance is monitored locally and at the monthly Accountability Committees.

Compassionate conversations

Training rolled out and LOM time off the road prioritised for conversations.
