COVID-19 Safe Workplace Assessments

As the Trust risk assesses all sites now the COVID-19 Secure guidance has been adapted for ambulance services (all non-clinical areas - excluding ambulances), we ask that all of you who are currently working from home, please continue to do so until your line manager informs you of any change. This is vital to ensure we protect you, your colleagues and support us in maintaining our response to patients.

For those people currently working at an EEAST base, work is under way to check we are COVID-19 Secure in the form of a risk assessment.

Keep your eyes peeled for changes in entrances and exits and pathways flows.

We are having to prioritise certain sites and staffing groups (AOC and training based on staffing numbers) to ensure your safety and that we remain compliant with COVID-19 Secure guidance.

We are working hard to adapt according to developing national guidance.

This work has commenced and we expect it to be completed in the next four weeks.

Good practice In summary:

 In every workplace where the social distancing guidelines cannot be followed in full:

    • Increasing the frequency of hand washing and surface cleaning.
    • Keeping the activity time involved as short as possible (<15 minutes re: 2m, <1minute <1m and no skin to skin contact).
    • Using screens or barriers to separate people from each other/floor markings to highlight safe distancing visually.
    • Using back-to-back or side-to-side working (rather than face-to-face) whenever possible.
    • Where reasonably practicable consider reducing the number of people each person has contact with by using ‘fixed teams or partnering’ (so each person works with only a few others).
    • Where other mitigation actions cannot be maintained, then a surgical facemask must be worn and disposed in line with Trust current waste guidance [further guidance will be developed and issued following the workplace risk assessments].

Exceptional circumstances such as fire/accident are considerations when respecting social distancing and can be removed if the circumstances mean it would become unsafe to remain >2m apart. 

As part of the risk assessment, the measures highlighted above will be addressed where practically possible and signage utilised.
