You’re invited to join Le Tour de Awe!

Between 26th June and 18th July, we would like you to join us in becoming more active to improve our wellbeing.

Being active has a whole range of benefits when it comes to mental wellbeing. It improves self-perception and self-esteem, mood, and sleep quality, and it reduces stress, anxiety and fatigue. Physically active people have up to a 30% reduced risk of becoming depressed and staying active helps those who are depressed recover.

So, let’s enjoy the good old British summertime and get out and about. Whether it’s exploring during your staycation, long distance cycling or a dog walk round the block. We would like you to join us to walk, cycle, ride, run or swim as much as you are able to and share your achievements with us. You can do so via our Facebook page, our WhatsApp group or by emailing awe@eastamb.nhs.uk.

The aim is to follow the progress of the Tour de France 2021 across the 23 days and match or (hopefully) exceed the 2,102 miles (3,383 KM) that the participants travel. We believe we can achieve this as a group (91 miles per day), every single step and stroke counts, every single metre wheeled will help us to reach the goal…and we’d love to see your pictures.

We are not asking for financial donations to a charity or sponsorship for this initial event, as we are acutely aware that there are currently so many worthy charity events placing a demand on members. We are doing this to support and encourage our colleagues. The team will provide regular progress updates, with the final tally being announced on NTK.

Here are a few reasons to get out there in July:

  • Plastic Free July 2021 - Clean Beaches Week
  • National Picnic Month
  • Love Parks Week 2021
  • Walk the night 2021 (breast Cancer Care & Prostate Cancer UK)

We look forward to you joining us!
