CAD: the next steps

HEOC call handler

As you may have seen a few weeks ago, Cleric has been selected as the new supplier for our CAD, and the implementation programme is now underway.

The early stages have focused on the new technical infrastructure that will be implemented across the region, and developing the roll-out and go-live plans.

The current plan is for Bedford EOC to go live first with the new CAD, with Norwich and Chelmsford following later. This allows us to build a planned and phased implementation, so staff get the training they require at the right time. The roll-out and go-live plan will be kept under constant review to make sure that we can deliver this critical system successfully, at the right time.

The Cleric CAD is currently being configured for us to include details like our local acute hospitals, Trust ambulance station and stand by locations, and our emergency resources (ambulances/RRVs etc.). We are also reviewing, with a group of EOC users, current EOC processes against the new CAD to determine any final developments or process changes that may be required.

We will then move into testing of the Cleric CAD and the start of the roll-out of ‘training for trainers’ and EOC staff. This will be for both Bedford EOC staff, and teams like the regional co-ordination centre, clinical support desk and clinical coordinators. The clinical support desk will still be able to operate regionally, as we plan is to link PSIAM to both CAD systems.

Gary Morgan, Head of EOC, said: “It is really exciting to start to plan the roll out of our new CAD system, which will enable us to give an improved service to our patients and provide EOC staff with a better system to manage 999 calls. During the roll-out we will be minimising any changes to CAD related systems to make the roll-out as easy as possible for staff, whilst continuing to recruit to vacancies.”

He continued: “This project is a huge challenge for all of our staff, but a great step forward in our continuing transformation which will provide a real platform for us to use for further improvements and developments next year. All the teams are working really hard to ensure we keep the project on track and I want to pass on my thanks to each of them for their efforts to date.”
