Fire Brigade Union (FBU) Industrial Action in May

The Fire Brigade Union (FBU) is taking planned industrial action on the following dates and times in May:

  • Friday 2nd May from 12 – 5pm
  • Saturday 3rd May from 2pm – 2am
  • Sunday 4th May from 10am – 3pm

As with the industrial action that took place last year, the Trust has put in place a contingency plan for these dates.

The strike action is set to have a local impact as FBU members from the region’s six fire services go out on strike. They are finalising their contingency plans to implement throughout the strike period.

EEAST understands that fire services will, during the industrial action, continue to answer 999 calls and ensure continued emergency cover for all life-threatening incidents, and also the majority of other emergencies, using fully trained staff.

Whilst this action should not have an adverse impact on our normal operations, our frontline staff should be aware that there could be delays in this response should they require fire service assistance with a patient.

The Trust will deploy an EEAST manager to any incident which the Fire and Rescue Service are requested to attend, to act as a scene liaison officer and ensure the welfare of our crews on scene.

Both hazardous area response teams (HART) will be deployed to the same incident if needed, with one acting as a rescue team.

In the event of a major incident occurring during industrial action, it is anticipated the Fire and Rescue strike will be curtailed with immediate effect.

Should you be concerned about the level of response during an incident, or have cause to raise other issues, please keep in contact with EOC staff and the area’s operations management e.g. your DOM.

Any updates will be published here on the Need to Know site so please check regularly for updates.
