Let’s talk about organ donation

On average, three people die every day waiting for an organ transplant. And it weren’t for this wonderful, generous act, this number would be much higher.

This week is National Transplant Week and the message is clear - have the conversation about organ donation with your loved ones.

NHS Blood and Transplant’s ‘Yes I Donate’ campaign aims to get the whole nation talking about organ donation, and is asking people to share their decision on what they want to happen after they die with those closest to them.

Research has shown that 4.1million people who want to donate their organs say they haven’t talked to a loved one about their decision. Are you one of those people? The service relies on families to consent to donating a relative’s organs, and this decision is significantly easier for them when they know what you want.

Anyone can register as an organ donor, at any age. You can choose to donate some or all of your organs - and you can change your mind at any time. It only takes a few minutes to register; all you need to do is visit: https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/register-to-donate/ or call 0300 123 23 23.
