Behind the scenes: Anne Wright, Local Security Management Specialist

Anne Wright EEAST Local Security Management Specialist

Our ‘behind the scenes’ feature, where we highlight a person or team from within the Trust, continues.

This week is Anne Wright, who is our Local Security Management Specialist. Anne has worked with the ambulance service for 28 years.

Hi Anne - tell us a bit about yourself

I started off as a legal personal assistant (PA) to a partner in one of the largest firms of solicitors in London, where I got my love of the law. I got a job as a PA at a health authority, which eventually morphed into one at the ambulance service, and I’ve been here since!

I am the security adviser to the Trust, with the remit of protecting its assets – one of its main assets being its staff.  By undertaking audits of ambulance stations and premises, I am trained to spot potential gaps in security. I aim to liaise with managers to try to get the matter resolved, and thus protect the staff who work from that base.  I am also passionate about ensuring colleagues who have been assaulted in the line of duty, through no fault of their own, get to see justice done.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The total unpredictability of it all.  As my role is also reactive, I will be asked to investigate a security incident that has just occurred and I really like getting involved. Because of my length of service, I have built up a good network and close working relationships with several members of staff - and I even get called Miss Marple by one of them!

What kind of things should people get in touch with you about? What can you help them with?

Anything and everything that relates to security (of themselves, of others or assets).  If they have any worries or concerns they should contact me. Their snippet of information may be the piece in the puzzle that is missing and that I have been waiting for.  It is better to have been told by several members of staff about a security problem than none at all.

Which of the Trust values (respect, care, teamwork, quality, honesty) is most important to you, and why?

Whilst all of them are important in their own way, honesty has always been my mantra.  If I make a mistake, I’ll be honest about it – I am only human after all and people respect that.   If I can’t help, don’t give a staff member false hope.   I am 100% honest and I expect 100% honesty back.

What did you want to be when you were young?

When I was very young I wanted to be an air hostess and when a teenager, a French teacher.
