Call handler Robert aims to raise money for charity by taking ‘a casual 26-mile stroll down the Mall’

It’s less than 40 days until the London marathon and our fantastic EEAST runners are gearing up for the big day.

One of our running heroes is Norwich call handler Robert Pitt, who has been with the Trust since November 2015.

Robert will be running the mammoth 26.2 miles to raise money for St. John Ambulance, a charity he has volunteered with for a number of years. He is also running to remember a colleague, Hannah Cox, from the charity, who sadly died earlier this year.

“I have volunteered for St. John for a number of years,” said Robert. “As the nation’s leading first aid charity, they believe that no one should suffer due to the lack of trained first aiders. It was five years ago at the Brighton marathon that I attended my first cardiac arrest with the charity. I saw first-hand how volunteers can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.

“After completing my first marathon in April 2015 I was overwhelmed with emotion. I crossed the finish line feeling truly drained, my legs ached, and I was starting to turn a light shade of pink from the searing sun.

“Despite all of this, about a week later, I started to miss the hype of the marathon in a true ‘holiday blues’ fashion. I had been bitten by the bug! As many marathon runners will tell you, one is never enough. There's nothing quite like crossing the line after so many hours of running and the months of training.”

From all of us Robert – good luck, you can do it!
