A station supervisor is gearing up for his first triathlon in the hope of raising hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity.

Chris McGregor, who is based at March ambulance station, will be taking part in the London Triathlon next month.

The 30-year-old, from Peterborough, who has worked for the Trust for eight years, will be swimming 1.5k, cycling 40k and running 10k at the event on 8th August for the Brain Tumour Charity.

Chris and friend Sam Hemmings will be taking on the Olympic distance triathlon in memory of Sam’s mum Fiona, who died suddenly last year from an aggressive brain tumour. Fiona worked in administration at the Trust a number of years ago.

Chris is hoping to raise around £1,000 for the charity, which funds research into brain tumours, provides support and raises awareness of the symptoms.

He said: “It is a charity Sam is passionate about and I am happy to claw myself around the rivers and streets of London to contribute to this great cause.

“I have done a half marathon before and Tough Mudder events, but never a triathlon. I have been trying to fit training around shifts and a new baby and I hope to get round the course in about five hours.”
