Changes to the way you can report a crime

Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk constabularies have made changes to the way you can report a non-emergency crime:

 Please be aware that, at present, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire constabularies don’t have an online facility to report crimes.

 Call or text

The police non-emergency number is 101 and is available 24-hours a day, seven days a week.  Calls made from anywhere across the counties are connected to a switchboard at the relevant police constabulary and then directed to the most appropriate person, department or station.  If you are calling from outside the county you wish to report the crime to, you will be asked at the first opportunity if you want to speak to an alternative constabulary. 

Calls made to 101 will cost 15p for the entire call, no matter how long the call or what time of day it is.  This applies to both landline and mobile phones, but calls are not currently included as part of inclusive minute or discount packages. 

For Essex only: As an alternative to 101, you can also call Essex Police on 01245 491491 for non-emergency enquiries.  Calls made to this number are charged at the normal local and national rate.

For Norfolk only: You can text Norfolk Police on 07786 200777.  

In person

If you would prefer to report a crime in person, you can do so at your local police station or to your neighbourhood specialist officer - details can be found on each police constabulary website.

Please remember to always ring 999 to report an immediate threat to life or property. The 101 non-emergency number does not replace 999.
