Emotional first marathon for Rachel

Congratulations to Rachel Acamon-Carbonelli who completed her first marathon at the weekend in memory of her mother.

The Waveney-based health care referrer ran the London Marathon on Sunday, which has raised thousands of pounds for Action on Addiction.

The mother-of-two from Oulton Broad, near Lowestoft, said it was an emotional experience after deciding to run for the charity after her mum Bernadette Carbonelli died in 2002 following a long fight with drug addiction.

The 37-year-old completed the marathon in five hours and 30 minutes and raised £1,500 for her chosen charity. She added that she did not want her first marathon to become her last.

She said:  “It was overwhelming and for the first half it was too overwhelming and it took longer to get into my stride.

“I said I would stick to half marathons after this, but because I did not get the time I wanted it has driven me on to do it again.

“I am really proud of myself and really pleased with the support I received. Not everyone has been through similar situations, but lots of people have been touched by my story.

“The thing that got me the most was that I knew it would be massive, but I was not prepared for how massive it was.”

The Great Yarmouth Roadrunners member said she wanted to help other families by supporting a charity that funds research, treatment, family support, education and training into addiction. To sponsor her, visit: https://www.justgiving.com/Rachel-Acamon-carbonelli/

Well done to Karen

And a special congratulations also goes to Karen Sage, of patient transport services, who ran the London Marathon in an impressive five hours and 38 minutes. From all your colleagues in PTS, and the rest of us at the Trust, well done!
