Essex technician hits donation milestone

One of our Basildon technicians has thanked everyone who donated to her charity head shaving event which raised £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Eliya Ferguson braved the shave on Monday (31st October) and smashed her initial target of £500 before the clippers even touched her head.

Friends, family, and staff gathered at Basildon station to watch her  take more than just a little bit off the top. Eliya said: “It was great fun; I’m chuffed to bits with the amount of money that has been raised. I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated or supported me; it is a fantastic charity and hopefully this money will go some way to helping people who need it most.”

Eliya’s recent motivation is due to some close friends who are currently going through chemotherapy for cancer. She said: “People going through chemotherapy lose their hair through no fault of their own. The whole reason I did this was to help others and hopefully I have achieved that.”

On smashing her initial target, Eliya said: “I was amazed to see how much money it has raised, £1,000 just for cutting hair is an awesome thing to do, and I really appreciate the support.”

She added: “It feels fine; I’ve got myself a beanie hat in preparation for my upcoming night shifts.”
