Final bow for “amazing” Brightlingsea community first responders

John and Pat Eaton

Community life-saving stalwarts John and Pat Eaton are retiring from active duty after 13 years with the Brightlingsea first responders.

With John turning 70, the much-loved pair will no longer attend incidents but have been made joint lifetime presidents of the group in recognition of their commitment to the community.

Treasurer and fellow community first responder (CFR) Steve Wicks said: “John and Pat are an amazing couple who have worked tirelessly to keep our responder group going.

“They have been inspirational in their commitment to providing the town with an immediate local response for medical emergencies. They leave us with the legacy of a highly active and supportive team who will ensure that their great work will be continued.”

Colchester Paramedic Dan Behn had the pleasure of working alongside John and Pat during their final shift last week.

Dan said: “They were very professional and went beyond the call of duty to assist me with an elderly gentleman who had suffered a fall. When I arrived their handover was very competent and the patient care provided prior to my arrival was very good.”

John and Pat moved to Brightlingsea in 1982 and became CFRs in 2002. John became a joint coordinator for the group in 2009, and together with Pat has attended more than 400 emergency calls.
