NHS Improving Quality, and the University of Jönköping and Qulturum in Sweden, have joined forces to create a new and innovative online course for those in healthcare.

FUNdamentals is a multi-platform learning experience that puts the focus back on quality improvement – and it’s free.

A way to learn new skills about making and sustaining improvements in healthcare, the course provides you with powerful ideas, tools and connections to survive and thrive as an improvement leader.

It will help you to:

  • put together your own toolkit for leading and supporting improvement
  • Connect with and learn from other health and care leaders, and share practice
  • have the confidence, knowledge and skills to operate as an effective improvement leader
  • make a difference to patient and staff experience and outcomes of care.

What’s the format?

Online: The course is delivered entirely online over eight weeks and contains a mixture of videos, PowerPoints, reading and quizzes as well as discussion forums.

Study anytime: A new module is made available every two weeks but you can choose to study at your own time and pace as there are no set ‘lesson times’.  You can do this at work or from home, whenever and wherever is convenient.

How long does it take? It is expected to take between one and three hours a week to complete.

Live events: After each module, participants are encouraged to take part in a live event via YouTube or Twitter at a set time each fortnight (TBC) to share knowledge and learning. These are recorded and shared via YouTube if you are unable to make this timeslot.

Social networking: As part of the course you are asked to join Twitter, Google+ and after the course, LinkedIn.  This is not essential to the materials of the course but will give you many more opportunities to network and learn from others both during and after the course.
