HART paras take on gruelling charity challenge

A team of hazardous area response team (HART) paramedics will be testing their limits in a gruelling three-day challenge in the name of charity.

Sarah, Jane, Karl, Stephen, and Charlotte will head to Dartmoor for the UKChallenge 2016, taking on a series of physical and mental team challenges, from running and canoeing to anagrams and riddles.

Paramedic Sarah said: “Whilst being sleep deprived, it will test every core skill we have spent our career and lives perfecting. Fitness is not enough - we will need patience, strategy, humility, leadership, intelligence, and compassion, but most of all teamwork.”

The team have pledged to raise £999 for ShelterBox, a charity which provides emergency shelter and vital supplies to support communities around the world overwhelmed by disaster and humanitarian crisis.

The £999 would provide 29 shelter boxes, enabling 29 families to rebuild and make temporary homes for themselves.

To help them reach their target, the team will be at Freeport, Braintree in Essex on the 11^th June from 10am-4pm, where they will aim to ‘row’ the length of English Channel and back again – all 70,000 metres of it. The challenge will see them row continuously in 15 minute stints, and guest rowers are welcome!
