Inaccurate news: Chief Executive Anthony Marsh

Following a number of inaccurate news articles regarding Chief Executive Anthony Marsh, the Trust would like to ensure that staff have the facts.

Mr Marsh continues to receive his normal salary as the Chief of West Midlands Ambulance Service, plus an additional allowance for the extra responsibilities and demands of running EEAST as well; this is not a pay rise and will only continue to be paid during the period that he is responsible for both services. By comparison, within the same two areas, there are 11 Chief Fire Officers and 10 Chief Constables.

The terms of Mr Marsh’s pay whilst undertaking his role here at EEAST were agreed by the remuneration committees of both trusts and take into account his significant responsibilities and experience.

EEAST Chair, Ms Sarah Boulton, said: “Mr Marsh has made a significant impact on our service and has the full support of myself and the Board; since joining us in January, he has invested around £6m of corporate savings back into frontline services, put 147 new replacement ambulances on the road, with a further 120 on order and started an extensive recruitment programme of 400 student paramedics which will see more clinicians on the frontline treating patients.

“All of these things are helping to create a safer and more effective service for our patients and a better working environment for our staff.”
